I'm a programmer and this kind of functionality is essential for me, so the lack of it with desktop effects turned on is really annoying. If Gutsy really is going to be composite-by-default, this kind of bugs cannot be left alone. I attach a screencast where I try to use ctrl + shift +left/right in various situations in gedit, which results only in cursor blinking.
