I resolved my issue with a firmware upgrade. The 203E firmware upgrade, available at Dell.com allowed me to burn more DVD-R types (different media IDs). I originally had 203C firmware. I have just discovered that the same dvd-r do not work on windows either. I am currently using the 8.10 latest release and I have this problem also. My machine is a Dell Inspiron 6000. My drive is an NEC DVD+-RW, model # ND-6500A. Have you had any luck with this issue? I seem to have the same problem. Only have tried DVD-R, but does not work, in the same manner. I'm running 6.06 LTS (server), with no X, just commandline utils (growisofs), but I get the same error. It recognizes the blank disc, but refuses to write it.
