[Bug 134435] Re: Doesn't detect External Monitor
With Hardy we've added a new Xrandr-based GUI tool for configuring external monitors available via System Preferences Screen Resolution. ** Changed in: displayconfig-gtk (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged = Fix Released -- Doesn't detect External Monitor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/134435 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 134435] Re: Doesn't detect External Monitor
Can confirm that external monitor detection in displayconfig-gtk also fails for me. It's impossible to get it to even recognize that a second monitor is available, even though I'm currently running both monitors mirrored. Can configure the monitor manually with xrandr tools. Dell Inspiron 1420n (VGA external monitor port) Intel x3100 graphics card HP w2207 external monitor I don't see how this is a duplicate of Bug #144641, since that deals with generation of xrandr, and this issue deals with detection of an external monitor. If 144641 also includes using xrandr to detect external monitors, then ok. -- Doesn't detect External Monitor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/134435 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 134435] Re: Doesn't detect External Monitor
Same thing over here I have an Acer aspire 5572, running a fresh install of Gutsy tribe 5 with all the latest updates (as today) I have a intel card and the test button is clickable. And when I try to test, X restart and my external monitor (samsung syncmaster 753dfx) becomes primary monitor and my laptop becomes the clone with the same resolution as the monitor (I'm trying xinerama) So I try to apply instead of test and it generates the following xorg.conf (whereas xorg.conf.1 was the config before I tried to configure xinerama.) X is killed after rebooting and only replacing xorg.conf by xorg.conf.1 will bring it back I also include displayconfig-gtk -w with the external monitor reconnected ** Attachment added: xorg.conf after configuring xorg.conf with displayconfig http://launchpadlibrarian.net/9091761/xorg.conf -- Doesn't detect External Monitor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/134435 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Xinerama isn't needed for dual-head with the new intel driver. David, you can read how to configure X manually at http://wiki.debian.org/XStrikeForce/ReleaseNotes or look at my xorg.conf above. You may want to track Bug #125941, which is about displayconfig- gtk creating erroneous or unneeded xorg configuration data. -- Doesn't detect External Monitor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/134435 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 134435] Re: Doesn't detect External Monitor
Strange that you can use the test button at all, since it should be disabled by default for Intel cards. Could you please append the file pictable.txt, that can be created by running the following command: displayconfig-gtk -w pcitable.txt Displayconfig-gtk doesn't support xrandr yet.
