[Bug 136504] Re: Unable to connect to networks with hidden SSID (gutsy and iwlwifi)

2007-10-16 Thread Christiansen
Great Michael, tried the patch you mentioned and can confirm that it
WORKS on Kubuntu Gutsy and a Atheros AR5211 adapter - in fact it has
been uploaded to the online source for K/Ubuntu now, so only did a
online upgrade of my Kubuntu Gutsy RC1.

[Bug 136504] Re: Unable to connect to networks with hidden SSID (gutsy and iwlwifi)

2007-10-16 Thread Ken B
The patch that Michael mentioned (and has since been issued as an
upgrade in the repositories) fixed the issue for me as well.

I really didn't think this bug would be fixed before Gutsy went gold.
Yet another reason why Ubuntu is amaziing.

Thanks for the heads up too, Michael.

Also, is there some way I need to close this and mark it as resolved, or
does a dev need to do it?

** Description changed:

+ UPDATE: This bug has since been fixed and an update issued. The latest
NetworkManager will correct the issue.
+ For details:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/baltix/+source/knetworkmanager/+bug/50214
+
Ubuntu is unable to connect to any SSID that's hidden, no matter whether
it's open, uses WPA, or any combination of factors relating to network
configuration (tested on university's WPA enterprise, WPA2 personal on
  router, and open, unencrypted APs).

This has been attempted in Gutsy with the latest updates and using an
Intel 4965 AGN wifi card through both the standard network configuration
  tool as well as NetworkManager.

As soon as SSID broadcasting is enabled, all works well. Otherwise, it
starts to connect (green status lights in nm-applet) and indicates in
the tooltip that it's connecting to the designated network, but upon
completion, is actually connected to another AP (or it freezes on the
  connecting stage and eventually fails).

This is all manual, naturally, as I don't expect nm-applet to
  automatically connect to hidden networks.

This is my first bug report, so please let me know if there's any other
  information I can provide.

[Bug 136504] Re: Unable to connect to networks with hidden SSID (gutsy and iwlwifi)

2007-10-06 Thread Christiansen
Having the same problem with Gutsy updated to NM 0.6.5-0ubuntu15 (as of
06.10.2007).
The chipset on this one is the Atheros AR5212, and it's connecting fine to the
same Access Point when the SSID is UN-hidden. Using Edgy worked flawlessly with
the SSID hidden until i upgraded. It would be great if this could be solved to
the final release of Gutsy, as many of the wireless networks I use has hidden
SSIDs.

[Bug 136504] Re: Unable to connect to networks with hidden SSID (gutsy and iwlwifi)

2007-09-26 Thread Kunal Thakar
I face the same porblem.I have a Intel 3945 ABG card that came with the
Dell Inspiron 1420N. It affects knetworkmanager also. The only way I can
connect to such a network is by adding the wireless-ssid and wireless-
key lines in my /etc/network/interfaces file. Hidden wireless networks
are pretty common in Universities. I hope this bug is fixed.

I am having the same problem using Intel 4965 AGN wifi as well. Cannot
connect to hidden SSID until it is un-hidden. Putting in manual
connection does not help either.
