[Bug 137657] Re: Missing Generic Screen 1280 x 768

2008-07-29 Thread Bryce Harrington
Thank you for reporting this bug and for your efforts to make Ubuntu
better. As Xorg has improved this past year, an unfortunate side effect
of these improvements is that it has rendered several design assumptions
in displayconfig-gtk obsolete. So, starting with Hardy we are no longer
putting displayconfig-gtk forth as a primary configuration tool, and are
putting our development focus into the Screen Resolution applet. As a
result, we do not plan to fix this bug and thus are closing it.

For more background on this change, please see this page: [WWW]
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/DisplayConfigGtk

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue
for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

[Bug 137657] Re: Missing Generic Screen 1280 x 768

2007-10-08 Thread Sebastian Heinlein
the intel driver no longer supports dual screen setups using xinerama.
so it cannot be supported anymore by displayconfig-gtk. you can
alternatively try the old i810 driver.

would you please attach /etc/X11/xorg.conf.failsafe after running in low
graphics mode before you reconfigure your system.

furthermore I would be interested in the devices used in your computer:

sudo displayconfig-gtk -w pcidump

the above command will create a file called pcidump.please attach this
too to this bug.

[Bug 137657] Re: Missing Generic Screen 1280 x 768

2007-10-08 Thread Andreas Schildbach
The Plug'n'Play monitor does not work even with the latest version of
displayconfig-gtk (apt-get dist-upgraded everything).

Extending the display is not possible any more at all (cannot be
selected).

If I try to make the Dell X1 monitor default (selecting Plug'n'Play &
widescreen & the correct resolution), I only get a hardly readable
fallback graphics mode. From there, I can start displayconfig-gtk with a
button, but it suddenly presents 3 screens rather than 2. This confuses
me very much.

No, it doesn't. It - like all other settings I tried - crashes X. This
is on a virgin Gutsy Beta.

Besides, if there are common resolutions like 1280 x 800 in the list,
why not also 1280 x 768?
