[Bug 139800] Re: Screen and Graphics sets resolution wrong
'displayconfig-gtk' appears to be setting up Virtual when it doesn't need to. (Perhaps to make to separately sized monitors match in framebuffer size, if that is a limitation of the hardware. ** Changed in: displayconfig-gtk (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: None => displayconfig-gtk Importance: Undecided => Low ** Summary changed: - Screen and Graphics sets resolution wrong + Virtual is set when it doesn't need to be, causes scrolling -- Virtual is set when it doesn't need to be, causes scrolling https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/139800 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It should be A s its is not flickering and its always been a larger then needed resolution that I have seen appear in virtual. -- Virtual is set when it doesn't need to be, causes scrolling https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/139800 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 139800] Re: Screen and Graphics sets resolution wrong
Which of the following is happening: (a) a Virtual Screen size larger than the video mode is being setup; this means that the image is sharp and clear, but a scrolling action happens when the mouse hits the edges (you _will_ know if you have this). Or: (b) the mode is at a frequency higher than the monitor can handle, the picture will be distorted, flickery, stretched and very very hard to read. (you _will_ know if you have this). Or: (c) something else. -- Screen and Graphics sets resolution wrong https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/139800 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 139800] Re: Screen and Graphics sets resolution wrong
Same problem here. With two 17" monitors which should display at 1280x1024, I ended up with one correct and the other showing 1600x1200! This was resolved by editing xorg.conf, which as we all know is not for the faint of heart. After getting the resolutions corrected, desktop effects will not activate now. At least I'm not scrolling all over the screen anymore. =\ -- Screen and Graphics sets resolution wrong https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/139800 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 139800] Re: Screen and Graphics sets resolution wrong
After thinking about this bug more I have noticed that there is some oddities about the way virtual is being added infact it is not being formated like the rest of the xorg.conf file is. Don't know if this helps but this bug will cause lots of problems later if not fixed. -- Screen and Graphics sets resolution wrong https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/139800 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 139800] Re: Screen and Graphics sets resolution wrong
This bug is still a problem. When I upgraded a friend to Gutsy from fiesty It kept the proper xorg.conf file but at one point later while messing with his graphics stuff I opened "Screen and Graphics" to try and set it up for a better resolution. This lead to him panicking after he restarted because he resolution was messed up. This was because for some reason virtual was set in xorg.conf which it should not be. THIS is going to cause people to not use Ubuntu if this keeps happening as the ONLY fix involves going into the xorg.conf file to fix it. -- Screen and Graphics sets resolution wrong https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/139800 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 139800] Re: Screen and Graphics sets resolution wrong
I can confirm this also. I have a edited xorg.conf file but wanted to follow the ubuntu standard and test to use the Screen and graphics application provided by ubuntu gutsy. The frustrating part for me though is actually that the list of screens does not show my monitors in the list: Samsung SyncMaster 920T Samsung SyncMaster 226CW Where I want to use 1685x1050 on my 226CW screen and 1280x1024 on the 910T one and can't see really good info to get them going. //Niklas -- Screen and Graphics sets resolution wrong https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/139800 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 139800] Re: Screen and Graphics sets resolution wrong
Hi, I am having similar issues with 2 computers. The resolution management in Screen and Graphics preferences needs a lot of work. It just doesn't work well. detects wrong resolutions, doesn't detect manual changes to xorg.conf, isn't synchronized with xorg.conf, crashes.. On several occasions clicking OK or test would do nothing. This needs to be addressed. Thanks. Please, adapt your /etc/X11/xorg.conf accordingly.
