I was mixing this with another issue. It is fixed in 15.04 with
3.19.0-31-generic (and possibly earlier), sorry.

[Bug 1403792] Re: brightness of one of two screens no longer adjustable with hotkeys and menu

2015-10-12 Thread Karl-Philipp Richter
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected rc-7.3.2+15.04.20150420-0ubuntu1 vivid

** Description changed:

Without noticible cause the brightness of the screen of my laptop is no
longer adjustable and stuck at the lowest level. Both the hotkey on my
keyboard and the brightness submenu in the system settings no longer
show any reaction to changes (i.e. key pressing and using the regulation
  bar in the menu).

The issue persists accross reboots which makes the main screen of my
laptop unusable and it necessary to plug in an extra monitor!

I had this issue on an unknown version of Ubuntu < 14.10 and the
  installation of `indicator-brightness` (https://launchpad.net
  /~indicator-brightness/+archive/ubuntu/ppa) and setting the brightness
in it once to the lowest and then to the highest level fixed the issue
(persistently accross reboots), but now it doesn't show any reaction
neither (I adjusted the package soucres to point to `trusty` after `sudo
add-apt-repository ppa:indicator-brightness/ppa` in order to be able to
install in 14.10). When the issue occured `indicator-brightness` was not
  installed.

I could only fix the issue by rebooting and entering BIOS/EFI menu and
  using brightness hotkeys there.

Have you tried updated kernel?

sudo apt-get install python-bs4
git clone https://github.com/medigeek/kmp-downloader.git
cd kmp-downloader
chmod a+x kmpd.py
python kmpd.py

Choose last kernel
