it's important to note that this issue doesn't occur immediately it
happens after the computer has been on for more than 7 hours or so it's
very variable as far as the time it has to stay on. I will put the
vivid on a USB stick and boot it though just to test. I do know on
ubuntu 9.04 i didn't have this problem. It also isn't present in sl5 or
centos 5 as well.

I updated the bios to F7 and no change. It is also may be important to
not i was getting the same error with my hard drives as well. Switching
the AHCI mode fixed it but now for whatever reason every time i boot i
have to press S to skip mounting a drive. It didn't do this before
switching to AHCI mode and once fully booted into Ubuntu i can access
the same drive i skipped fine with no issues.

[Bug 1414334] Re: DMA Errors DMA: Out of SW-IOMMU space for 2048 bytes at device 0000:06:00.0

2015-01-27 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
shawn, as per http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3014#bios
an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (F7). If you
update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it
change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened,
and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then
please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1414334] Re: DMA Errors DMA: Out of SW-IOMMU space for 2048 bytes at device 0000:06:00.0

2015-01-24 Thread Andy Whitcroft
First step would be to try and find a kernel version where this is
working. Either an older or newer one. This will allow us to search
for the fix. If you know of a version where it did work let us know.
If not you might try the v3.18.3 kernel from the Mainline kernel
archive:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds

Please report any testing back here.

I can't upgrade to the 3.18 as it doesn't support the nvidia-311 drivers
