Stuart Bishop, as per http://www.asus.com/Networking/DSLN10/HelpDesk_Download/ an update to your router's buggy and outdated firmware is available (1.0.5.2). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? Once the firmware is updated, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status New. [Bug 1432659] Re: HP Pavilion 13-b208tu w/ Broadcom BCM43142 Wifi unstable, panics
I saw a similar problems with 14.10. I do not know if the kernel logs were similar, but could try to capture one with a LiveCD if it will help. I only had 14.10 on there a few days before upgrading. The Wifi access point is an Asus DSL-N10, hardware version B1 running firmware version 1.0.4.9. ** Changed in: wl (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1432659 Title: HP Pavilion 13-b208tu w/ Broadcom BCM43142 Wifi unstable, panics To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wl/+bug/1432659/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Stuart Bishop, given F.26 is such a pain, for now, let us move forward, and we can always circle back on it. + Did this problem not occur in a previous release? If so, which one(s) specifically? If you don't know/haven't tested, could you please test prior releases via http://releases.ubuntu.com/ and advise to the results? + Could you please provide the router manufacturer, model, and firmware version this issue is reproducible on? ** Changed in: wl (Ubuntu) Importance: Low => High ** Changed in: wl (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1432659 Title: HP Pavilion 13-b208tu w/ Broadcom BCM43142 Wifi unstable, panics To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wl/+bug/1432659/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1432659] Re: HP Pavilion 13-b208tu w/ Broadcom BCM43142 Wifi unstable, panics
The failure to boot Ubuntu 15.04 with the F.26 bios was reproduced with a USB recovery (bypassing any mess the BIOS update did to /boot), and after checking all the bios settings (there are very, very few things to twiddle on this model). With F.24, I am still seeing failures identical to the one in the bug description (apart from the bios revision). In addition, wireless fails to come back at all after a resume (but this looks like a different bug, as the traces involve bluetooth). I'll set this bug back to confirmed, but I understand if it needs to go back to incomplete until I can get the bios updated to F.26 ** Changed in: wl (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1432659 Title: HP Pavilion 13-b208tu w/ Broadcom BCM43142 Wifi unstable, panics To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wl/+bug/1432659/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1432659] Re: HP Pavilion 13-b208tu w/ Broadcom BCM43142 Wifi unstable, panics
Stuart Bishop, one thing to keep in mind as noted in the previously provided support article, is some BIOS updates change around things (ex. adding new settings without telling you, changing BIOS settings CSM+UEFI to Secure Boot in my situation with a Windows 8.1 laptop, or messing around with the /boot/efi/EFI/ folder). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1432659 Title: HP Pavilion 13-b208tu w/ Broadcom BCM43142 Wifi unstable, panics To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wl/+bug/1432659/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1432659] Re: HP Pavilion 13-b208tu w/ Broadcom BCM43142 Wifi unstable, panics
That was interesting. I eventually worked out how to get the BIOS updated (which requires a Windows 8.1 machine to unpack the BIOS, and combining it onto an HP_TOOLS UEFI diagnostics stick since any HP_TOOLS partition I had went with the Ubuntu install). f.26 would not boot at all. Get to grub, choose recovery mode, and it gets as far as the second line about a RAM disk when it hangs and requires powering off. HP diagnostics seem to think everything was OK. I didn't try booting FreeDOS or a Win8.1 stick (I'm low on USB sticks). Downgrading to f.24 got the system booting again. So I'm now slightly more up to date. If people are running similar laptops with f.26 I'd be interested in hearing about it - perhaps somehow the flash went bad. I'll twiddle the incomplete flag on this bug after I've run with the f.24 bios for a bit.

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report.
