I seem to have the same problem, although using suspend instead of hibernate, on my EeePC 900. I'm using the latest Intrepid kernel. I find that if any sound is playing when I suspend, when I come back from the suspend the sound no longer works. If no sound is playing when I suspend, then everything is fine. When the sound breaks, I see messages like the following in syslog at the time of the resume: Oct 5 06:38:49 eee pulseaudio[5822]: module-alsa-sink.c: Got POLLERR from ALSA I think this is the same thing this bug is describing. I've found another possible workaround for this bug. In dealing with https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/226342 I've stopped running pulseaudio completely. Since then, I haven't had any significant problems with hibernate/resume on 2.6.24-16-generic. It has managed to successfully hibernate resume at least 5 times in a row. The only slight artifacts are that each time I resume, I get a little squeal from the speakers, and a popup message saying my computer failed to hibernate. I've discovered that if I quit Rhythmbox prior to hibernating, there appear to be no problems with sound on resume. It's worked 3 times so far, anyway... I've also seen the message box that Steven mentions. One other oddity is that I have yet to be able to successfully hibernate twice in a row - on all attempts after the first, the computer appears to only get part way through the hibernation process (I'm guessing it does a 'save to RAM' but doesn't get as far as saving to disk), then resumes (the kernel log messages indicate that a resume has taken place). I then need to do a shutdown/reboot before I can hibernate again. Hi, I've just acquired a dual-boot Thinkpad T22 (Windows/Ubuntu on partitioned drive), and I'm a Mac user so sorry if I make a clumsy report. Much of the terminology is new to me. I seem to have the same bug on HH 8.04, and also it's the same for Suspend as it is for Hibernate: no sound after resuming. Everything else seems normal after Suspend/Hibernate. Also, I checked with Live CD HH8, and the same thing happened there - I suspended the LiveCD and it came back fine, but the sound was gone. Sound is also missing in the Tests in the Sound Preferences at the same time. Plus, a message Testing Pipeline is not responding appears. I'll also note that after Suspend there is one other oddity: a small message in the lower right corner of the screen that said something like Computer did not resume properly after sleep. I am also seeing this on a fresh Hardy Heron install. Linux Finarfin 2.6.24-16-generic #1 SMP Thu Apr 10 13:23:42 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux No sound plays after hibernation. As soon as I got the laptop I formated the drive and installed Ubuntu. Everything worked fine until I placed the computer in Hibernation. After coming back, I had no sound. I tried Googling for a resolution but nothing worked. I then tried to use the recovery disk that came with my computer in hopes that Windows would wake the sound card back up. Nothing. The only solution I have found is to boot the computer with option acpi=off. This is not a good solution since I am on a laptop. Without acpi a laptop just isn't a laptop. Any suggestions? Is this a bug?
