maybe not the besto solution Install Envy - this will install fglrx 8.40.4 ( but when U will change / upgrade linux kernel - U must do Envy again ;) because the gutsy restricted modules will overwrite your installed modules by Envy - anyway It will took 2 minutes to reinstall fglrx with Envy again ) -- [Gutsy] xorg-driver-fglrx: multihead breaks catastrophicly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/149726 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 149726] Re: [Gutsy] xorg-driver-fglrx: multihead breaks catastrophicly
Thanks for the video, that helps eliminate a variety of possibilities. Since you say it works ok with Feisty, presumably one of the changes between Feisty and Gutsy caused it. Could you try booting some intermediate versions, such as Tribe 3 or Tribe 5? Alternatively, or in addition, could you try downgrading your fglrx driver? Use the drivers from ATI's website. There are also some newer fglrx versions available. I'm also curious if the issue is specific to DVI, or if it shows up with VGA as well, and if anything similar happens when using the -ati driver. I don't know if you're able to test either of these, but if so it could be useful data. Please also attach your xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log files, as well as the output from lscpi -vvnn in case we need your video card's pci id. ** Changed in: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22 (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- [Gutsy] xorg-driver-fglrx: multihead breaks catastrophicly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/149726 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 149726] Re: [Gutsy] xorg-driver-fglrx: multihead breaks catastrophicly
Busy downloading ridiculously large ATI driver on slow South Africa internet.. please stand by ;) It happens on DVI and DVI-VGA (converter plugged into laptop) as well, the M1437 only has DVI ext.-out. Initially when I switched to Gutsy it worked (as in it didn't cause the laptop to lock up), just the monitor configuration tool did not work (got confused, kicked primary to 640x480). It was a recent upgrade that did this particular problem, unfortunately I have no idea which. In the mean time will attach the info you requested. ** Attachment added: lspci http://launchpadlibrarian.net/9839586/lspci -- [Gutsy] xorg-driver-fglrx: multihead breaks catastrophicly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/149726 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Incidentally this is the config I used to use on Feisty (have a script to swich between a bunch I made up for various locations since there was no manager for dual screens). I've tried this one to no avail. ** Attachment added: Xorg.conf for home MAG 2211w http://launchpadlibrarian.net/9839648/xorg.conf.home -- [Gutsy] xorg-driver-fglrx: multihead breaks catastrophicly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/149726 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 149726] Re: [Gutsy] xorg-driver-fglrx: multihead breaks catastrophicly
Ok tested with ATIs driver now with the MAG (DVI to DVI), and it works perfectly. I still need to test DVI to VGA but I don't think it will be a problem if this wasn't. -- [Gutsy] xorg-driver-fglrx: multihead breaks catastrophicly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/149726 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 149726] Re: [Gutsy] xorg-driver-fglrx: multihead breaks catastrophicly
Which fglrx version specifically did you try? It's good to hear that the new fglrx seems to work perfectly. Unfortunately it's too late in the game for us to get this in for Gutsy, but it's good to know that manually upgrading it solves the problem. We'll make sure to include the newer version in Hardy, so this issue can be closed at that time. -- [Gutsy] xorg-driver-fglrx: multihead breaks catastrophicly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/149726 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 149726] Re: [Gutsy] xorg-driver-fglrx: multihead breaks catastrophicly
Working one is 8.40.4. The broken driver is xorg-driver-fglrx packaged 7.1.0-8.37.6+2.6.22.4-12.4 (or just 8.37.6 I guess). Seems a bit of a serious problem to not get into Gutsy release, unless I'm the only one who's experienced it. -- [Gutsy] xorg-driver-fglrx: multihead breaks catastrophicly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/149726 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
