i don't know if it solve all the problem you encountered, but i have
same issue (bfmtv video ok but no sound, but on another url though). i
have solve it with vlc 2.2.1 :

Tools > Preferences > Input/Codecs > Demuxers > MPEG-TS:
 - Disable 'Trust in-stream PCR'
 - Check Seek based on percent not time

With this both options, m3u8 plays successfully with both sound and
video

and the latest vlc version is newer on Debian:

vlc (2.2.1-4) unstable; urgency=medium

  * debian/control:
- No longer suggest videolan-doc. It is very outdated.
- Remove transitional vlc-plugin-pulse package.
- Remove obsolete Breaks and Replaces.
  * debian/libvlccore8.symbols: Bump version requirements for meta data change

Rebooted with the kernel 4.2.0-13, and get that error into journalctl
(instead of the previous errors):

which could concern the latest gstreamer changes:

note:
- radiotray have sound (was not the case with 4.2.0-15 kernel: wrong device 
input sound detected)
- freetuxtv or same vlc stream: get video, no sound
