[Bug 151521] Re: Error mounting NTFS volume

2007-10-15 Thread Liam Keene
The reason people would have suddenly experienced this behaviour in the
wake of an upgrade is that Gutsy uses the new ntfs-3g driver, while
Feisty did not.

When you try to mount a NTFS partition using the ntfs-3g driver, the
driver does a sanity check to see it the Windows NTFS logfile is clean.
When it is not clean, due to an improper shutdown or a removable drive
not being properly removed, you get the feedback from the mount command
shown the original post.

If you are sure you shutdown Windows/removed drive correctly, please try
again and see for sure. I hadn't used Windows in well over 6 months,
but rebooting Windows then rebooting Gutsy resolved the issue.

[Bug 151521] Re: Error mounting NTFS volume

2007-10-15 Thread novaheat
I can't speak for the original poster, but I haven't actually booted
into my NTFS partition in quite some time, so an unclean shutdown from
there isn't the issue -- it's definitely something that cropped up in
the wake of the upgrade for me, along with an fstab that was missing
entries for both NTFS drives and missing mount points for the drives in
/media.

As I said, the problem wasn't too difficult to resolve using the -f
option, but whatever the problem was, it was unrelated to the
functioning of Windows.

2007-10-15 Thread Liam Keene
This is also happened to me recently, although I don't think this can be
considered a bug in any way.The feedback you have got from the mount
command tells you what you need to know.

quoting karlrt ...

$LogFile indicates unclean shutdown (0, 0)
.
Mount is denied because NTFS is marked to be in use.

I simply rebooted into Windows and shutdown the computer cleanly; without using
the restart button and the problem was resolved. If you are using Windows, you
should try this too and see if the problem is resolved for you too.

[Bug 151521] Re: Error mounting NTFS volume

2007-10-14 Thread novaheat
This happened to me also.

Make sure that the mount point (/media/hda7) actually exists (I had to
create new mount points for both of my NTFS drives after upgrading to
Gutsy) and try the force option.

I also added the appropriate information to /etc/fstab, as that file
seems to have been re-created during the upgrade to Gutsy without re-
adding my NTFS drives. In any case, it worked and I am able to access
the drives with no problems.
