Seems that shutter played a role in my case. I load shutter as a tray
Icon. If shutter (or any other tiny tray-iconed program) brings down the
whole desktop, that should not be (even if the program itself crashes).

[Bug 1515972] Re: Xorg crash

2015-11-25 Thread Hans-Christian Payer
Well, i did test with the live-cd, http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-
live/current/, for overall 3 hours with no crashes on both systems. I
cant say, wether this issue is already resolved or not, because on 15.10
there are longer periods with no crashes and then they do. You can never
say when. I think it its somekind poor Quality management to put it on
the BIOS, i updated on both machines with no change. It is very
annoying. I I am in the good will to help, but i see no progress.
Browsing throug bug-reports i experience, that i am not the only one
with sudden x.org crashes. So what now?

[Bug 1515972] Re: Xorg crash

2015-11-14 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Hans-Christian Payer, thank you for reporting this and helping make
Ubuntu better.

As per http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-
netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x220 an update to your
computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (1.40). If you update to
this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it
change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the
information above is provided, then please mark this report Status New.
Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.
