Good Day - i've been searching for a few hours and found this post; I am having exactly the same problem; I am not sure if I should repeat my information from my post on ubuntu forum or if I can just paste a hyperlink to it; Please see Entry #6 here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=790600 I've loaded the latest version of Alsa I have a fresh install of Ubunty Hardy (8.04) 2.6.24-19-generic I've dabbled with alsa-mixer enabling everything that seems relevant. I know my sound-card is producing sound; i tested the output. I don't get any loopback on line-in I got loopback on mic once, but never again - maybe i didnt test i properly Nor can I record or use Skype. Any assistance would greatly be appreciated! Roberto- I followed your instructions, and I still cannot hear the audio. Is there anything else we can do to troubleshoot the issue on Ubuntu? I'll try to test w/ another distro using a live cd to try and rule out hardware mobo issues. Rayterril, If you have tryed every possibility with gnome-volume-control, I unfortunately don't know what to suggest anymore.. anyway, I'd point the following questions: - is it a clean Ubuntu Hardy install? Did you try making the same (playing with the gnome-volume-controls) through the LiveCD? - are you sure your TV card (or whatever you're putting in your line in input) is outputing the sound correctly? I don't think it's a driver problem since I have exactly the same motherboard (Intel's DP35DP) and alsa 1.0.16 fixed it for me. Good luck! Feel free to reopen the bug (or open some other) if you have reasons to think it's a Ubuntu problem. Rayterril, could you give some more detail? If you're using Hardy and have the same motherboard as me, this is kind of weird. On this motherboard, to enable the audio loopback, I go to gnome-volume- control, select edit/preferences and mark all the avaliable devices (just to be sure to not miss anything). With all those devices enabled (sometimes I need to close and reopen the gnome-volume-control for they appear). Once this is done, I go to the Options tab. There should be there 3 Input source selectors. The first one is what matters (I'm not able to make the others work), and I select Line on there. After this, I go to the recording tab and make sure the volume are adjusted (not muted). I recommend setting a low volume because, for loopback, the audio is too much amplified. Finally, on the Switches tab, I enable the Analog Loopback checkbox and then I can listen the line-in audio on the system speakers, so loopback is working, as opposed to this bug I reported - that's why I've closed it (I read somewhere that the person which reported the bug is enough to close it, but feel free to reopen if you have reasons to think it should be). Loopback support for Intel HDA was added in ALSA version 1.0.15.
