Please read the reply above, scribus-ng does not exist any more it is just a pointer to scribus. Running scribus from the command line should do the same thing. Scribus-ng was just a way to run scribus 1.4 instead of 1.3, now scribus is all 1.4 (1.4.5 as happens). Again scribus-ng is an empty package that requires scribus be installed. I can type àèìòù, etc just fine. I do use it for Italian stuff where I clearly need accents. Can you try the ppa:scribus/ppa ? beware files saved with that scribus- ng can't be opened by scribus anymore. there scribus-ng is 1.5.0. I'm confident this is not really a scribus problem.
