I don't think ping has worked in any version of Wine in the manner you tried. Same problem here with WarII and Battle.net, didn't test any other programs. This is 32-bit Gutsy on a dual-cpu AthlonXP. I've done a bit more research into this problem and it appears that there is a problem with wine 0.9.46+. It is unable to connect to the battle.net servers. I'm not sure if this is true over http as well like using firefox.
