This has been in progress for a while. Updating qemu, requires updating other related components and making sure we don't introduce accidental regressions. FYI - I was waiting for 2.8 to appear actually and planning to work on 2.8 as soon as the current libvirt updates I'm working on complete. Ubuntu follows Debian as much as possible, and Debian does not yet have a 2.7 package. We'll merge it as soon as it does.
