Today i got the same problem with the auto generated xorg.conf. But i have not changed it manualy to 'vesa'. I can start the machine several times without a problem. but somtimes i get this error. Just to be sure: You get the same problem now, with the autogenerated xorg.conf? Yes, you can change it to vesa manually. Can you please generate a new xorg.conf with "sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg".
