[Bug 1685190] Re: Intermittent wireless network problem with RTL8821AE and 802.11n/EWC

2017-09-25 Thread Matteo Cossar
Update: connectivity restored by downloading, compiling and installing
lwfinger/rtlwifi_new drivers from github, even if Network Manager Applet
does not manage connection anymore and just shows Wireless networks:
device not ready.

[Bug 1685190] Re: Intermittent wireless network problem with RTL8821AE and 802.11n/EWC

2017-07-22 Thread Matteo Cossar
Same behaviour on my ASUS P2520LA:
- RTL8821ae wireless stops working after few minutes, sometimes can be restored
by "sudo service network-manager restart" or by running Wicd Network Manager.
- I have tried a USB wireless dongle: Netgear WG111v2 and it also disconnects.
- First months with 16.04TLS were OK. Then problem occurred and I tried
upgrading to 16.10 and 17.04. - With current update (4.10.0-28 30-JUN-2017)
Network Manager occasionally crashes when disconnections happen.

Seeing same trouble on an Asus P552LJ. I'll post debugging when I get
the chance tonight.

[Bug 1685190] Re: Intermittent wireless network problem with RTL8821AE and 802.11n/EWC

2017-05-21 Thread Richard Andrews
I think I am also seeing the same behaviour on my wife's laptop.
rtl8821ae wifi. Asus F555LA. Only a recent occurrence, after software
update circa end April early May 2017. Same behaviour for two different
wifi routers.

I don't have much opportunity to gather debugging but wanted to add a
data point.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.11 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

The information automatically collected by apport and attached to this
report may also be relevant since I made sure to run `ubuntu-bug` almost
straight away after reproducing the problem.
