Actually, python path is empty: $ echo $PYTHONPATH I have removed .local/lib/python2.7/ and gajim starts again. Thank you! Hi, You are using /home/dimka/.local/lib/python2.7 as python path. Please unset that local one and try again. This can not be blamed on the system package.
