Impact

Install gnome-clocks
Click the app menu in the top left of the screen.
Click Help
In Help, click Add an alarm.

The second sentence at says the alarm "will go off regardless of whether
Clocks is open or not."

But this sadly is not true currently since gnome-clocks does not keep
running in the background.
