[Bug 1732057] Re: WiFi Microcode SW Error Detected

2017-11-14 Thread Tim Tierney
Did a little more digging in my old logs. I think I found kernel logs
from my zesty install. iwlwifi firmware jumped from v22.391740.0 up to
v31.532993.0 (probably during upgrade). Shortly after that is when I
experienced the first 'Microcode SW error detected'.

Would it be worth me reverting back to v22 and trying that? I'm
definitely a n00b when it comes to kernel/firmware stuff. Not sure how
it all works.

[Bug 1732057] Re: WiFi Microcode SW Error Detected

2017-11-14 Thread Tim Tierney
Hey Joseph. Thanks for your time and quick reply. I have no problem
trying 4.14. However, this is a little outside of a standard install.
I'm running '/' on top of ZFS. I'm pretty sure ZFS isn't out yet for
4.14. So if I install that version without ZFS included, my system
won't boot.

One good thing is I kept my 17.04 '/' dataset. So I've been looking for
config differences and Google-ing trying to diagnose it myself.

I did notice a bug with similar symptoms (Bug #1681513) stating there is
a new privacy feature added to NetworkManager. Something about MAC
Address Randomization breaking some WiFi adapters. Comparing my old and
new NetworkManager config. There's a new line that wasn't there before.
Could this new feature be causing it? Just stabbing in the dark here.

[Bug 1732057] Re: WiFi Microcode SW Error Detected

2017-11-14 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.14 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.
