I've been combing through freepascal.org bug tracker and found that fp- ide is somewhat sensitive regarding terminals. In their forum I've found a recent question regarding problems with tmux (no bug report though). I've just found the root cause for this is tmux. If fp ide is run on an xfce terminal it doesn't crash, but under tmux on the same xfce terminal it does.
