This selects the desktop itself (which is an instance of caja). The idea seems to be that you can switch between the applications and the desktop. Selecting the desktop allows you to then use the keyboard to move between desktop icons. Not sure if this is a bug or whether this is the intended behavior, but I have seen people requesting the Desktop to have an entry in the window switcher. There was a recent change in Marco (about a month ago or so) where a lot of the window/app switcher keybindings were fixed (most weren't working correctly), so I wonder if this "feature" has been there all along, and that fixed finally exposed it. I can also confirm with Metacity 1:3.28.0-1, so maybe it's a Caja issue, not a Marco one? I am also seeing this when using Alt+~ with Caja. It does not show up with Alt+Tab. (Show Desktop Icons must be enabled in MATE Tweak, which is the default, but not my normal personal preference.)
