[Bug 178596] Re: Intel GMA x3100 configuration

2008-01-03 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Please _attach_ the Xorg.0.log and /etc/X11/xorg.conf, don't paste them
in the comment.

** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu)
Sourcepackagename: xorg = xserver-xorg-video-intel

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

New laptop (Gateway M6816) with Intel Core2Duo, Intel 965 chipset (x3100
graphics, Sigmatel/HDA sound, intel w3945 wifi) My native screen
resolution is 1280x800. I'm experiencing this problem with Kubuntu 7.10
installed and Ubuntu 8.04a2 livecd - by default, the background will be
at native resolution but the window mngr (kde or gnome) will be @
1024x768. It appears that xorg is configuring this for dual screen
output and sending the window manager output to screen TV which is
- overlayed on top of the lcd screen. I had to google, download the intel
- drivers from intel, and tweak my xorg.conf file to add a tv section and
- disable output to it but this introduced issues with dvd playback. I
- also experienced issues with sound playback and had to download the
- latest ALSA drivers and compile to get my sound in built -in microphone
- to work. I purchased this laptop because of Intel releasing their
- drivers to the Open Source community but my experiences with closed
- drivers from nVidia and Via audio on other computers I own has been a
- far better experience. What I would like to see is Intel port their
- Windows graphics configuration utility to X.org(change resolutions,
- adjust shared memory, turn on/off external output). I'll keep my fingers
- crossed but I hope this issue will be fixed for Hardy Heron's final
- release. Anyhow, here's the X.org configuration that was automatically
- set up during the live-cd run of Hardy Heron Alpha 2:
+ overlayed on top of the lcd screen.
