There is a new version of the kernel '4.15.0-39.42', to install, you must
follow [0]this guide
[0] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed

And then see if it works. In any case, execute then with this version of
the kernel:

apport-collect 174

Thanks for your time,

We already know that your linux '4.15.0-36' works well. You could try to
boot with your kernel '4.15.0-38' and then start your system switch to
terminal mode (CTRL + ALT + F3) and execute:

apport-collect 174

The idea is to review the 'logs' and discover why it fails.

Yes. I upgraded yesterday. On booting today into -38 the displays did
not light up. On reverting to -36 I get displays again. I'll test the
mainline kernel and report back.

2018-10-25 Thread Cristian Aravena Romero
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.19 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

** Description changed:

Lenovo ThinkPad W540 docked with an ultradock. 3 external displays
running on VGA, DVI and display port all connected to the dock. BIOS
mode set to run external displays ONLY with nvidia chipset. prime-select
  nvidia run.

When running under 4.15.0-36-generic with nvidia 390.77-0ubuntu0.18.04.1
I boot and all three external displays run fine.

- Upgrading to 4.15.0-38 and Xorg starts up, but none of the displays
- light up.
