Hi,

amarok (1.4.3) does not prevent the user that he tag-edit files, that are
read-only. Of course it is a bit stupid trying to do it. But imagine this worst
case:
You copied 100 mp3 three years ago from a CDR into your home. Of course you
forgot, that they are read-only and now you start to tag 100 files with the
'Edit Tag Information ...' Dialog. After 30 minutes hard work everything is
tagged and you click 'save & close'. Boom! You get an error message and all
your changes are lost!

I found two reports, which describe this problem as a side node, but they
unfortunetely got closed without fixing this specific issue:
Bug 110299
Bug 131274

Best regards
Georg Sauthoff

Amarok 1.4.x is in bugfix-only mode as development is focused on Amarok
2. Unfortunately your bug will very likely not get fixed, as the risk of
regressions is too high and the Amarok developers do not have the
resources for it. Thank you for your report though.

We should make sure this is not a problem in Amarok 2.

Closing correctly as Amarok 1.x is unmaintained since quite some time

Sorry about the name, I saw no way to edit it, shouldn't be doing these
things late at night. I managed to file a duplicate (!), so it's been
marked as a duplicate, and invalidated, but I'll post to the real bug
report, where I will post a link to this one and spell your name
properly.

Thank you for the bug report and for your patience.

2008-01-05 Thread Daniel Karlsson
I've checked this bug with upstream and they've been aware of it for
some time, actually 10 months, so you might have to wait some more for
a fix, it's not a showstopper bug but never the less it ought to be
fixed, and hopefully the amarok team will get on it as soon as possible.
And thanks for the report, hopefully this will give it some more
attention.

I misunderstood you, so i was just changing the title, I removed the
title so the file name was showing and when I tried to change it it
disappeared. So the bug is confirmed.

[Bug 180369] Re: Trying to change the title of read-only file makes the title disappear (empty)

2008-01-04 Thread David Nemeskey
Are you sure the file was read-only, and there was no title tag defined
for it (so the file name is written in the title column)? I could
reproduce this error on 2 machines.

One more thing: it was an mp3 file. I don't know what other details may
be important...

I've tried to reproduce the bug, and I do steps 1-4 but the the title
still appears properly. I'm using Kubuntu Gutsy same Amarok version as
you.
