I'm now on a Fedora PC with OpenOffice it happens here too. So it doesn't seem to be Ubuntu-specific but an OOo bug. I can't reproduce this problem on Ubuntu 7.10 or Ubuntu Hardy, please attach an example file that has this problem for you. I think that this may be fixed on Ubuntu Hardy due to a patch that I added, but I can't currently make it show the problem on 7.10 either. I can confirm same behavior when working on a document with many images that I putted by drag and dropping. Xorg starting getting really memory hungry reaching 1GB resident memory after a short time period (5-10minutes).
