I have now found a fix for the first part of my report. This has reduced the noise level so that I can see the next part is definitely not the same bug. It sounds like you're describing two different bugs and only the first one is your own so I am going to hide the second one from the description. ** Description changed: When I close a window on the gnome desktop. If possible, please install 'openssh-server' and log into the machine from a second machine via the 'ssh' command. Now find out the PID of gnome-shell (the one running as yourself, not gdm), and type out this command without yet pressing Enter: apport-cli --hanging -P PID Now reproduce the freeze on the first machine and while it is freezing press Enter on the above command on the second machine.
