[Bug 183796] Re: iwl4965 unusable: packet loss, slow network
Kim Nguyễn, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example: kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.11-rc5 This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why specifically you were unable to test it and add the following tags: kernel-unable-to-test-upstream kernel-unable-to-test-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding. ** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 621265 Slow Wireless Connection in Intel 3945abg ** Tags added: needs-kernel-logs needs-upstream-testing ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/183796 Title: iwl4965 unusable: packet loss, slow network To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/183796/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 183796] Re: iwl4965 unusable: packet loss, slow network
This bug manifests on my system when I use 802.11b (linksys befw11s5). These suggested workarounds did not work for me: disabling wireless power management qos_enable=0 I'm at 2.6.24-19-generic and latest nic wireless router firmware revs. I suspect the problem exists between old, 802.11b only routers and new Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN [Kedron] Network Connection (rev 61) nics. I'm retaining the old linksys wireless route in the event I can provide any useful debug information to help get to the bottom of this; what information can I provide? -- iwl4965 unusable: packet loss, slow network https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/183796 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 183796] Re: iwl4965 unusable: packet loss, slow network
I have been testing Intrepid for quite some time now. I have recently switched to 2.6.27-1-generic to test this particular issue, but the slow network performances are still there. However, as mentioned in the upstream bug report, using the module option qos_enable=0 solves the problem without seemingly affecting network performances in other configurations. Of cours this would have to be tested more thoroughly but I think it would be sound to add options iwlagn qos_enable=0 to /etc/modprobe.d/options with a comment in this file as a workaround. Please note that the orignial bug (ping issue) has been closed but that another one monitoring the data transfer rate issue was opened some times ago (http://www.intellinuxwireless.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1669) There hasn't been many activity for this bug report recently however, besides the last comments on qos_enable=0. -- iwl4965 unusable: packet loss, slow network https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/183796 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 183796] Re: iwl4965 unusable: packet loss, slow network
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test: 1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux- image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test. --or-- 2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD. Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback. ** Tags added: cft-2.6.27 -- iwl4965 unusable: packet loss, slow network https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/183796 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 183796] Re: iwl4965 unusable: packet loss, slow network
Hi Kim, You mentioned stock 2.6.24-rc7 and -rc8 with in-tree mac80211 and iwlwifi (1.2.23 fails to compile due to a change of wext_handle_ioctl and such). I'd actually encourage you to also open a bug report at the upstream bugzilla.kernel.org bug tracker. I've noticed many times that once a bug gets the attention of the upstream kernel community, there will be a quick resolution to the issue. Since the Ubuntu kernel rebases with the upstream vanilla kernel, once the fix is committed upstream for others to benefit from as well, the Ubuntu kernel would also pull in the fix. For help with making an upstream bug report, please refer to the Reporting Bugs Upstream section of the following link: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies. Please let us know if you open the report upstream.
