[Bug 1851910] Re: Display does not show up (short flashes)

2019-11-29 Thread igi
** Description changed:

  This issue started recently (I think it could be related to some package
  update.

  Steps to reproduce:
   - Power the PC on;
   - BIOS Boot screen (not visible, the display is off);
   - GRUB screen (not visible, the display is off);
   - Gnome Login screen (not visible, the display is off).

  Workaround:
-  - after a reasonable time for the Gnome Login Screen to be reached,
inserting my user password starts the desktop session. Screen is never shown on
first try (the best is to see short flashes of the desktop in the screen). The
display keeps on trying to start.
-  - long press the power button to force power down and immedeately switch the
PC back on --> after 1 or more workaround cycles the screen is shown (sometimes
with wrong horizontal placement).
+  - after a reasonable time for the Gnome Login Screen to be reached,
inserting my user password starts the desktop session. Screen is never shown on
first try (the best I can get are short flashes of the desktop in the screen).
The display keeps on trying to start.
+  - long press the power button to force power down and immediately switch the
PC back on --> after 1 or more workaround cycles the screen is shown (sometimes
with wrong horizontal placement).

  After the display is working, it works smoothly until the next power
  down (i.e. if I reboot the PC everything is visible from the BIOS Boot
  screen onward.
