Public bug reported: The system has a HDD (sda) for data and a SSD (sdb) for system. In BIOS, SSD is given as first disk but this is not recognized by kernel. The system has a legacy BIOS, no EFI.
At the installation all the options have been activated (full installation with updates and HW drivers). The installation was requested to use entire SSD (sdb) without LVM. When installation is finalizing, an error pops up that installation of grub to /dev/sda failed. Installation was requested to be done to /dev/sdb, so it is likely that some grub install parameter was wrong. I unplugged SATA cable of HDD to let SSD be /dev/sda and installation was successful. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1858040 Title: Kubuntu 19.10 installer selects wrong disk for grub when installed to 2nd disk To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1858040/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
