I tested with the 5.6.4.2 driver from the aircrack repo (https://github.com/aircrack-ng/rtl8812au), and that one works with my USB dongle. [yay!] I did have to re-enter the WPA2 key in network manager in order to reconnect to my wireless, which was odd - but this is the first version newer than 4.2.3 that actually activated the dongle and enabled the USB light on my particular device. Still not working under 5.4.0-31 (groovy gorilla alpha) either. If I remove the rtl8812au-dkms package and build the driver from /usr/src/8812au-4.2.3, that older version works fine. I think I did try that before. That is where I found aircrack-ng one as well. It didn't work on that kernel for me.
