It appears you are using graphics packages from the 'oibaf' PPA, which is not supported and is known to be buggy. I tried getting a debug log of drm.i915 using "drm.debug=0x06" as a kernel parameter. In the log dmesg.txt there's a "hotplug event received" in batches, everytime one of those appears, my screen flickers. Which is weird to me since I don't unplug my fixed laptop screen.
