I think for me this fixes the problem, could you explain why the commit is reverted? Could you try the kernel in https://launchpad.net/~vicamo/+archive/ubuntu/ppa-1888385 ? It's based on 4.4.0-187 with one additional commit from https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/commit/?h=linux-4.4.y=e27a1e3d9c9ac453a94ab5646f7b92492a685c04, which is to be included in 4.4.0-188. The PPA is scheduled for build and may take a couple hours to finish.
