Ubuntu 20.10 (groovy) reached end-of-life on July 22, 2021.

discovered during a manual partitioning install ..

found that fstab had an entry for /boot/efi mount vfat type pointed to
the /dev/sdb2 efi partition  of the install media (USB)

deleted the fstab entry..

also deleted the mount point /boot/efi  as no EFI partition existed on
an MBR based system (being rebuilt)

could then boot the system .. ( grub was installed/reinstalled .. dual
boot system )
