Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This is likely a duplicate of bug 147623 where usplash does not work with some nvidia video cards. Could you try booting with usplash and report the results? No, I filed a seperate bug report about the usplash screen not woeking, this is about SATA not working in ACPI mode. Michael Stather : Can you please boot the Hardy alpha 4 CD with quiet and splash option disabled? You can do this by following these steps : 1. Boot your computer on the hardy CD 2. After setting up your keyboard and language, press the F6 key 3. Remove quiet and splash from the code line you get, and then press the Enter key Ubuntu will show you all the outputs from the boot process. If the boot hang at some place, can you provide all error/suspect output messages that you get? Can you also copy this command in a terminal ( without the quotes ) : lspci -nnvv lspci-nnvv.txt and attach the resulting file lspci- nnvv.txt ? This file will be created in the folder you are in with the terminal ( most probably your home folder ).
