[Bug 1895202] Re: touchpad suddenly not detected, appearing as PS/2 mouse in devices

2020-10-22 Thread Allen Gooch
This problem persists with Ubuntu 20.10 released today.

The modprobe/rmmod/modprobe method above still works there, however it
is very inconvenient to have to perform those steps after each reboot.
Unfortunate, as Ubuntu has been the distro that I've used and
recommended to others for the last four years based on "it just works".

FWIW, I do this dance after boot and the touchpad works...

➜ ~ sudo modprobe psmouse
[sudo] passord for ole:
➜ ~ sudo rmmod psmouse
➜ ~ sudo modprobe psmouse

Sincerely,

[Bug 1895202] Re: touchpad suddenly not detected, appearing as PS/2 mouse in devices

2020-09-23 Thread Russ McGill
Kernel 5.4.0-48 fixes the problem. The TouchPad is recognized correctly
and touch pad, buttons, and track point work. Thank you.

[Bug 1895202] Re: touchpad suddenly not detected, appearing as PS/2 mouse in devices

2020-09-16 Thread Russ McGill
Same issue. Lenovo Thinkpad X1. Looks like it started with kernel version
5.4.0-45 and remains in 5.4.0-47. With 5.4.0-42 trackpad is listed as

↳ SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad

in xinput, with 5.4.0-45 and 5.4.0-47 it shows as

 ↳ Synaptics TM3418-002

according to Xorg.0.log same driver is loaded in 5.4.0-{42,45,47}

LoadModule: "synaptics"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/synaptics_drv.so

but neither the touchpad, the touchpad buttons, nor the trackpoint work.
But "synclient" sees the trackpad and prints out all the properties.
