I'm on Ubuntu 20.10 and security updates are no longer being provided. The recommendation is to upgrade to 21.04, but I want to avoid this issue. ~mesouug I've tested my XPS 9700 on the self-compiled ubuntu kernel, and it works great with a 4-pin plug, even the microphone input of the headset is fully functional. There may be hardware differences within the XPS 9700 line as well, but the driver must be fully functional for at least some of the hardware sold. Are you confident your headset should be compatible? I've connected USB sound card "Sound Blaster Play! 3" and Headset Microphone works just great. So headset microphone on XPS 9700 doesn't work due problem with drivers. I suspect that Dell put some non standard solution for switching between Internal Microphone and Headset Microphone because when I deleted from Windows 10 external utility called Max Audio Windows stopped switching to headset microphone whenever I plug headphones even when I select it manually. After reinstall of Max Audio it started to work as expected. Haven't try the headset microphone input, but I believe it may be a separate bug cause i've seen error reports for that on 20.04/20.10 versions with DKMS drivees. Yes, my bluetooth headset mic is detected (Escape 500 ANC) but no sound is received.
