[Bug 192765] Re: ping: sendmsg: No buffer space available (wifi)

2009-10-07 Thread Partha
How do you increase the wmem_max value? I am getting permission denied when I
do:
sudo echo 83886080  /proc/sys/net/core/wmem_max
bash: /proc/sys/net/core/wmem_max: Permission denied

I am also getting a constant dropping of network with my card (atheros
Ar928). Lot of these in dmesg:

[ 1395.576122] ath9k: DMA failed to stop in 10 ms AR_CR=0x0024
AR_DIAG_SW=0x4020
[ 1396.593119] ath9k: DMA failed to stop in 10 ms AR_CR=0x0024
AR_DIAG_SW=0x4020
[ 1396.812230] ath9k: DMA failed to stop in 10 ms AR_CR=0x0024
AR_DIAG_SW=0x4020

(I do miss /var/log/messages which does not seem to contain much info).

My system:
Linux Bordeaux 2.6.31-12-generic #39-Ubuntu SMP Mon Oct 5 22:08:01 UTC 2009
i686 GNU/Linu (Karmic with the latest updates installed).

I had similar problem with this card - dropping connection every 10
minutes, any big download is doomed to failure since the card freezes
and drops connections.

In the past, (prior to kernel 2.6.31), I simply used an older version of
compat-wireless (from April of 2009) which compiled fine and gave a rock
solid connection. Unfortunately, you can no longer compile that version
with the new kernel.

I'm also experiencing this exact issue on Jaunty Netbook Remix installed
on a Dell Mini 9 with Broadcom 4312 wireless chipset. Ping
connectivity drops, but network manager reports full signal on wireless.
Logs attached.

Should I enable Jaunty backports for a fix?

FYI-
Just added backports for Jaunty via

sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-jaunty,

I get prompted for new backports kernel modules, and install them/reboot.
No change. I've removed backports.

Just trying to be thorough, thanks.

[Bug 192765] Re: ping: sendmsg: No buffer space available (wifi)

2009-05-03 Thread marco caminati
As niram reports to have done in his last post, I have compiled and installed
latest http://wireless.kernel.org/ drivers, and all the same the bug is there.
I restate it: at completely random times, wireless totally stops working, and
if issued ping accesspoint, a sendmsg: no buffer space available error
message is returned.
However a preferential trigger seems to be torrent or openssh-based clients
(ssh, sftp, sshfs). My setup:
slax 6.1.1
Linux slax 2.6.27.8 #1 SMP Sun Apr 12 22:55:24 Local time zone must be set--see
zic i686 VIA Esther processor 1000MHz CentaurHauls GNU/Linux

wifi usb dongle : alfa awus036h, rtl8187 chipset

I add that with old r8187 driver (such as the one included in
BackTrack3) there was no problem, but I can't get it to compile on
present 27.8 kernel.

I also tried to increase /proc/sys/net/core/wmem_max up to 1 as
read somewhere, without success.

Hi,

Sorry for my late response.

I attached 3 files with the dmesg output in 3 different stages:

before: wireless started, everything works, openvpn not started yet
inter: wireless started, openvpn started, stuff still works normally
after: the connection stopped working, i got the no buffer space
available message from ping.

I hope this helps you guys solve the problem.

Another thing that i noticed, the connection stopped working just after
i started pidgin, ant it was attempting to connect to yahoo. I don't
know if this is just a coincidence, or if pidgin really caused the problem.

Hi Ketil,

The current Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 contains the newer 2.6.27
Ubuntu kernel. It would be great if you would be willing to test. For
more information regarding the Alpha5 release, please refer to
http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/intrepid/alpha5 . You should be able to
test using a LilveCD. Please let us know your results. Thanks.

[Bug 192765] Re: ping: sendmsg: No buffer space available (wifi)

2008-08-28 Thread Leann Ogasawara
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-
image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and
test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer
2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4.
Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced.
You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the
bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please
open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the
2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please

2008-03-30 Thread skambale
Hi,
I am seeing the same problem on Ubuntu 8.04 beta release. I see the problem
specially when I am running multiple torrents and/or Gnutella downloads.
I am using netgear wg111v2 wireless USB adapter.

As per the request above I am attaching all files.

[Bug 192765] Re: ping: sendmsg: No buffer space available (wifi)

2008-02-25 Thread Leann Ogasawara
Can you clarify if you are running the Gutsy or Hardy kernel? The bug
report mentions the linux-source-2.6.24 package but you also wrote that
you're on Gutsy.

The Hardy Heron Alpha series was recently released which contains an
updated version of the kernel. You can download and try the new Hardy
Heron Alpha release from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/hardy/ .
You should be able to then test the new kernel via the LiveCD. If you
can, please verify if this bug still exists or not and report back your
results. General information regarding the release can also be found
here: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ .

If the issue still exists in Hardy, per the kernel team's bug policy,
can you please attach the following information. Please be sure to
attach each file as a separate attachment.

* uname -a  uname-a.log
* cat /proc/version_signature  version.log
* dmesg  dmesg.log
* sudo lspci -vvnn  lspci-vvnn.log

For more information regarding the kernel team bug policy, please refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies . Thanks again and we
appreciate your help and feedback.
