Hi tones111, It's definitely possible to open an upstream bug report. You'll want to use http://bugzilla.kernel.org . For more information regarding filing a bug upstream, refer to: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies#head- 5c359dabc7647e30265f5fbfe8daad31f4183714 You'll also want to use the latest upstream kernel available and confirm you still get these messages with that newer kernel. For now I'll go ahead and close this report as it seems the initial bug you reported is now resolved. If you'd like to open a new report regarding the dmesg errors you are seeing that would be great. Also in that report it would be good to reference the upstream bug if you happen to open it. It's just helpful to the development teams if bug reports target one specific issue. Hi Tones, Thanks for testing the upstream vanilla kernel. It's very helpful. I imagine the Intrepid Ibex 8.10 kernel which was most recently rebased with the upstream 2.6.25 kernel will have the same result. The Intrepid kernel is currently available for testing in the following PPA: https://edge.launchpad.net/~kernel-ppa/+archive Care to maybe test? If you are not familiar with how to install packages from a PPA basically do the following . . . Create the file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/kernel-ppa.list to include the following two lines: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kernel-ppa/ubuntu hardy main deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/kernel-ppa/ubuntu hardy main Then run the command: sudo apt-get update You should then be able to install the linux-image-2.6.25 kernel package. After you've finished testing you can remove the kernel- ppa.list file and run 'sudo apt-get update' once more. Please let us know your results. I've been continuing to try and get automounting working. With firmware updates to both my motherboard and the optical drive in question I'm still seeing the problem with 2.6.24-16-generic. One observation I've made is that discs will automount if I boot the computer with a disc already in the drive.
