[Bug 199997] Re: Installer cashed
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 172937 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/172937 this last comment that it's not caused by an I/O error, so maybe a squashfs bug. I'm marking this as dupe from bug #172937 Thanks for your report ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 172937 SQUASHFS error while booting from live cd -- Installer cashed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/17 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I'm sorry about delay in responding. command: sudo dd if=/dev/scd0 of=/dev/zero the output: 1431796+0 records in 1431796+0 records out 733079552 bytes (733 MB) copied, 160.567 s 4.6 MB/s no errors and no sb_bread e.g. dmesg | grep sb_bread hope this helps. -- Installer cashed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/17 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 199997] Re: Installer cashed
The issue is most probably an I/O error reading the CD (for example, a driver problem), rather than squashfs per se. I'd just like to verify this hypothesis by opening a terminal and trying the following: sudo dd if=/dev/scd0 of=/dev/zero and see if there are any I/O read errors (showing up as sb_bread failures in the kernel log - one should be able see these using dmesg). Please can you try this and let me know the results of this test. Then I can see if we can find any suitable workarounds. [Bug 199997] Re: Installer cashed
I've reproduced the same issue with desktop 8.04 both 64 and i386 iso images downloaded from 2 different sites (MIT and Canadian) MD5 checks out on all and I've burned them on two different computers and all of them have this very problem. Needless to say that I've wasted a few CDs and a whole day today. -- Installer cashed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/17 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I'd suggest making sure the md5sum of the CD matches the one in the MD5SUMS file, and if it does, trying the verify CD integrity option on the CD boot screen. If neither of these options indicate one of the above possibilities and you are able to reproduce the error, please follow up to this bug report.
