Can't confirm it but I have noticed something else. I can only get my bit rate in iwconfig up to 36Mb/s. I would like to see the speed improve as my isp allows me over 1 megabyte per second download speed. I can confirm this. It *seems* to work on Intrepid, but a fix really still needs to be released for hardy. Being a long term support release and all, it would suck if we lost support for wireless cards that depend on b43. (Mine for example.) If someone could update me on whether a fix will be released for Hardy's kernel or not. The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test: 1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux- image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test. --or-- 2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD. I'm using Kubuntu Hardy on an HP with the linksys 54G wireless g router and a linksys wireless adapter and on startup I only get connected to my router at 1 Mb/s. However, if I run "iwconfig wlan0 rate 54M" my speed is very fast. I am OP of the bug, but I recently switched machines to a new Dell Inspiron 1525 which uses the BCM4310 chipset - not supported by b43 or b43-fwcutter. So, I am unable to assist with any additional data about this bug until the 4310 can be tested. There are some open bugs about the b43 driver. For me, it drops the connections on WPA Enterprise connections (Eduroam). I also have a lot of messages: "b43-phy0 ERROR: PHY transmission error" There are reports of people who get it working, but using the manual compilation of the driver from the http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/b43 I will try to do the same, but at the moment I'm really busy. I use ndiswrapper because of this bug, but I would also like to point out that b43 seems much worse (as described above) than bcm43xx, however I have not used b43legacy. I am using a BCM4318 on a Gateway MX6027 notebook and have a similar issue. When I play Diablo II I get periodic spikes! Hello, I have the problem on a DELL D620 (0c:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM94311MCG wlan mini-PCI (rev 01)). I don't know if it kernel related, I tried modprobe'ing with b43's parameters without success : modinfo b43 parm: pio:enable(1) / disable(0) PIO mode (int) parm: bad_frames_preempt:enable(1) / disable(0) Bad Frames Preemption (int) parm: fwpostfix:Postfix for the .fw files to load. (string) parm: hwpctl:Enable hardware-side power control (default off) (int) parm: nohwcrypt:Disable hardware encryption. (int) When I'm relatively close to the AP (like <5 meters), it works well (can get 1MByte/Sec). But when I go far the AP (like >10 meters), speed decrease drastically (<40kbytes/Sec) and something like "disconnection" occurs: no packets are received from AP for 10 seconds and sometimes more...
