It was the CD I got from ShipIt, the old one was originally an Ubuntu 8.04 Alpha 1 install, the steps I used to enable the video driver is normal, go to Hardware Drivers and enabling the Nvidia driver. I did a clean reinstall of Ubuntu and it seems that the bug is gone, I guess it was something in the old install that was causing the problem. Same ISO you downloaded with first install? Can you please post some installation steps like how did you enable hardware acceleration at first after the clean install.
