i am not sure if https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/194430 is related. recent (today) hardy gives a white screen when switching users. 1. create another user 2. switch to the other user: gdm pops up normally 3. switch back to the original user: gdm pops up with white on white. 4. any further user switch pops up white on white screen.
