[Bug 202806] Re: Wifi connection hangs up randomly (ipw3945)

2008-08-15 Thread Leann Ogasawara
Hi Guys,

If you are running hardy, care to try installing linux-backports-modules
which has updated versions of the iwlwifi drivers. To know which
version of the driver you currently have use modinfo. For ex:

modinfo iwl3945

Please let us know your results. If the issue still exists, care to
confirm this is still an issue with the latest Alpha for the upcoming
Intrepid Ibex 8.10. You should be able to test via a LiveCD -
http://www.ubuntu.com/testing. Please let us know your results.
Thanks.

Status in linux source package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

 Bug description:
I'm running Ubuntu 7.10 on a dell M6300. The wifi chipset is ipw3945.

From time to time the wifi connexion hangs up completely. The user space
applications still work, but a strange thing happens: I can't use sudo
anymore: 'sudo ls' for instance just hangs not even asking for a password.

In /var/log/message, I can read this:

 under /com/redhat/dhcp/eth1 for sub-path eth1.dbus.get.reason

It shows that something in the kernel went wrong, perhaps the driver
ipw3945 is in an infinite loop ?

 - logging out does not correct the problem. If I log in again, the computer
halts on a black screen (probably when network manager tries to connect
 again)
 - soft rebooting does not work: the computer hangs when trying to shut down
web services (apache). See /var/log/messages at 11:39:36.

I have a similar problem. I am using Ubuntu 8.04 on a Dell D610. I get

I get a lot of segfault errors associated with Firefox.

I notice a number of things about my PC in the last month or so...this
was not happening when I first starting Ubuntu in May.

1. the screen goes mometarily blank occasionally.nothing untoward
happens and normal service is resumed within a second or two.

2. In the past couple of days, both Firefox and Thunderbird hang...Skype
and Pidgin seem to continue OK as I can send messages..but I cannot
update pages in FF nor my inbox in Thunderbird.

I have to reboot my machine and my router to clear the fault.

[Bug 202806] Re: Wifi connection hangs up randomly (ipw3945)

2008-06-11 Thread mgroyas
Same problem here with a IBM Thinkpad T40.

* Wifi is resetting now and then, on a WEP wifi network. Connection is
lost for a few seconds.

* But when I suspend the laptop, then when resumed the wifi seems to be
on, but I cannot ping or anything.

* I tried disabling the wifi via special keyboard Fn Key (Fn+F5), then
rmmod ipw2100, lsmod ipw2100, Fn+F5, but still ifconfig shows no IP
(IPv4) for eth1. Network-manager is still showing correct IP...

2008-05-13 Thread csoler
It seems I have a slightly different behaviour on hardy: I still have
the messages above in /var/log/message, but then the computer
completely freezes. I can only hard-reboot to get out of it. This
appenned to me 3-4 times since the official hardy release.

Nothing to do with kdenetwork, guessing it's a kernel bug.

Could you test this on hardy?

Yes, I know. I put kwifimanager because I could not find the entry for
'kernel', which is 'Linux' ;-)

Could you test this on hardy?

I'll try on a live cd this week. Let's hope this will be sufficient.
