Got the same problem on Hardy with Inkscape 0.46 and 800x600. I can also confirm this bug, but in my case it won't maximizing in any resolution. Removing (or detaching) one of the default toolbars makes inskscape maximize correctly as mentioned. Returning to invalid as this is not a bug with the ubuntu package, like I said, file it upstream. Hold down ALT and drag the window till you can see the menubar, then maximise it. Thanks for the tip, but it didn't work. I also tried with the Alt+F10 Shortcut... didn't work. A not very convenient solution is to remove one of the Inkscape default toolbar, after doing this Inskscape can be maximized in 1024x768.
