[Bug 210905] Re: not push-to-talk - xevie problem
Hah! Good luck. The alternative WAS the X Record extension, but that is now also broken! The only remaining method is reading events from the EvDev devices under /dev/input, but even this only works about 80% of the time. I'm getting pretty cynical about the Xorg developers attitude to accessible technology, ripping out features that existing applications in the ecosystem rely on. How are we going to encourage developers to build applications for Linux when we pull out the foundations from under their code on a regular basis. [Bug 210905] Re: not push-to-talk - xevie problem
I hate it when great features are being removed from software! I also used XEvIE in my programs. Does someone know if there will be a replacement for XEvIE? BTW the package libxevie1 providing /usr/lib/libXevie.so.1.0.0 still exists. Since XEvIE is broken, this package should be removed. -- not push-to-talk - xevie problem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/210905 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 210905] Re: not push-to-talk - xevie problem
I can confirm that this exact issue is also appearing in Jaunty. I have this in XOrg: Section Extensions Option XEVIE Enable EndSection If I run mumble from the command line, this shows up: GlobalShortcutX: /dev/input/event2: Macintosh mouse button emulation GlobalShortcutX: /dev/input/event4: Logitech USB Gaming Mouse GlobalShortcutX: Unable to open any keyboard input devices under /dev/input, falling back to XEVIE Xlib: extension XEVIE missing on display :0.0. GlobalShortcutX: XEVIE extension not found. Enable it in xorg.conf GlobalShortcutX: No XEVIE support, falling back to polled input. This wastes a lot of CPU resources, so please enable one of the other methods. Like another user noted, if you run mumble with sudo, the keyboard input errors don't show up. -- not push-to-talk - xevie problem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/210905 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 210905] Re: not push-to-talk - xevie problem
XEViE has been disabled and removed from Xorg, so you can no longer enable it. [Bug 210905] Re: not push-to-talk - xevie problem
I have downgraded libx11 to libx11-6_1.1.1-1ubuntu4_i386.deb (from Gutsy) now xevie works in Hardy. This must be a libx11 issue and not libxevie (or mumble). -- not push-to-talk - xevie problem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/210905 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 210905] Re: not push-to-talk - xevie problem
Anybody know when this will be fixed; get gnome-session working ? I am trying to X window into a Ubuntu server (8.04) from an iMac running Leopard and saw my PC desktop menus come up for a split second until my desktop wallpaper started. Then the terminal becomes unusable. All I can do is quit X Windows. Any ideas ? I can confirm that xevie works on Gutsy x86_32 but does not work on Hardy x86_32, http://www.freedesktop.org/~ajax/xevie/xevie-test.txt doesn't return from the call to XevieStart(dpy). -- not push-to-talk - xevie problem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/210905 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 210905] Re: not push-to-talk - xevie problem
If you sudo, Mumble will switch to /dev/input and won't use XEvie at all. XEvie actually works for me in the Xorg packages used in the release of Hardy on x86_64; could the original poster verify that this still is a problem on 32-bit? ** Changed in: mumble (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- not push-to-talk - xevie problem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/210905 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 210905] Re: not push-to-talk - xevie problem
I had same trouble. I whent on terminal and run sudo mumble . Now the push to talk works . So has to be some permision that mumbles needs to access some keyboard related. All that keyboard managmente might mess up things on 8.04 -- not push-to-talk - xevie problem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/210905 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 210905] Re: not push-to-talk - xevie problem
I'm not able to replicate the same bug you have; if I explicitly enable XEVIE in /etc/X11/xorg.conf, XEVIE will be enabled. (Look through the log for a line which says (**) Extension XEVIE is enabled) However, Xevie seems to be broken; if I compile and run the test program from http://www.freedesktop.org/~ajax/xevie/xevie-test.txt it will not output anything, even if run under the failsafe terminal session. I don't really know the xorg code well enough to dig into this :( The exact same test works fine in gutsy. ** Changed in: mumble (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed ** Also affects: libxevie (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- not push-to-talk - xevie problem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/210905 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
