[Bug 211336] Re: hibernate (works) but does not power down system
Matt Tretin, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Hardy desktop reached EOL on May 12, 2011. Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases We were wondering if this is still an issue on a supported release? If so, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in a supported release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. ** Tags added: hardy ** Attachment removed: "Log from fwts --no-s3 --no-s4" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/211336/+attachment/1768088/+files/results.log ** Attachment removed: ".etc.asound.conf.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/211336/+attachment/2235649/+files/.etc.asound.conf.txt ** Tags removed: apport-collected natty running-unity ** Attachment removed: "AcpiTables.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/211336/+attachment/2235650/+files/AcpiTables.txt ** Attachment removed: "AlsaDevices.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/211336/+attachment/2235651/+files/AlsaDevices.txt ** Attachment removed: "BootDmesg.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/211336/+attachment/2235652/+files/BootDmesg.txt ** Attachment removed: "Card0.Amixer.values.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/211336/+attachment/2235653/+files/Card0.Amixer.values.txt ** Attachment removed: "Card0.Codecs.codec.0.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/211336/+attachment/2235654/+files/Card0.Codecs.codec.0.txt ** Attachment removed: "Card0.Codecs.codec.1.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/211336/+attachment/2235655/+files/Card0.Codecs.codec.1.txt ** Attachment removed: "CurrentDmesg.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/211336/+attachment/2235656/+files/CurrentDmesg.txt ** Attachment removed: "IwConfig.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/211336/+attachment/2235657/+files/IwConfig.txt ** Attachment removed: "Lspci.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/211336/+attachment/2235658/+files/Lspci.txt ** Attachment removed: "Lsusb.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/211336/+attachment/2235659/+files/Lsusb.txt ** Attachment removed: "PciMultimedia.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/211336/+attachment/2235660/+files/PciMultimedia.txt ** Attachment removed: "ProcCpuinfo.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/211336/+attachment/2235661/+files/ProcCpuinfo.txt ** Attachment removed: "ProcCpuinfo_.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/211336/+attachment/2235662/+files/ProcCpuinfo_.txt ** Attachment removed: "ProcInterrupts.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/211336/+attachment/2235663/+files/ProcInterrupts.txt ** Attachment removed: "ProcModules.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/211336/+attachment/2235664/+files/ProcModules.txt ** Attachment removed: "UdevDb.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/211336/+attachment/2235665/+files/UdevDb.txt ** Attachment removed: "UdevLog.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/211336/+attachment/2235666/+files/UdevLog.txt ** Attachment removed: "WifiSyslog.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/211336/+attachment/2235667/+files/WifiSyslog.txt ** No longer affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/211336 Title: hibernate (works) but does not power down system To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/211336/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I just confirmed the behavior with latest patched kernel 2.6.38-11-generic. First attempt at mainline kernel version 3.1 from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/daily/current/ failed to get me a real X session. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running apport-collect 211336 and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue. On my Asus NJ71Ja (Ubuntu 10.10, kernel 2.6.35-23, x64) I also have to power off manually after hibernation (shutdown works fine). I also looked at bug 595822, and ran the 'fwts' tool linked to in that report - results are attached. ** Attachment added: "Log from fwts --no-s3 --no-s4" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/211336/+attachment/1768088/+files/results.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/211336 Title: hibernate (works) but does not power down system -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
